What is balayage? 

Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour - similar to what nature gives us if we were to spend out lives in the ocean and at the beach - with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines.  this is not to be confused with a lot of the two toned line-inthe-middle-of-your-hair 'home cooked ombres' that you often see floating aroun perth.  The main idea of balayage is subtly and less being more when creating soft, natural sexy looks.

How is it balayage applied to the hair? 
Balayage is applied on the surface of the hair shaft and often times hair can be back combed so only finer sections of the hair are lightened, otherwise you would have a streak of colour that isn’t vey soft at all. It is also often called a freehand technique, and Wella offers a great balayage tool called Freelights which don't require foil which we use along with L'Oreal colours .

Does it require a lot of maintenance? 
The other great thing about balayage is that it requires very little maintenance.  It grows out naturally and more softly so you don’t get an obvious regrowth line and and so you can wear it for longer between salon appointments. All you really need to do is protect it as you would any other colour, we recommend Olaplex Hair reconstituting treatments to keep you hair healthy during the lightening process, plus use a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner like our favourite sulphate and paraban free UNITE hair care products we ship in from the US, and heat protection when styling.

Is it suitable for all hair types/lengths? 

It's true, balayage looks great on just about anyone! With an endless amount of shades to choose from it  works on both light and dark hair. Both Rihanna and Jessica Alba are great examples of balayage celebrities.

We are currently doing a technique called ‘Ecaille’ which is popular amongst celebs such as Sarah Jessica parker and Olivia Palermo. It's the perfect combination of tourtise shell brown tones, Ecaille is perfect for darker haired clients who want to try out a lighter colour, it can be warm neutral or cool. The choice is really up to you. Balayage looks fantastic on both long and bobbed hair.
