Olaplex Home Hair Care Range - What do they do and How do I use them?
OLAPLEX has been a greatest tool in protecting our clients' hair from the stresses caused by lightening it, plus when used as a restorative treatment it's helped long time blondes (like myself) restore life into dry, porous and fragile hair.
Now Olaplex has a whole range of amazing products that can be used at home to further strengthen your hair in-between salon appointments.
This brings up lots of questions - what exactly do the different Olaplex Home Care Range products do?
How do I use them?
Which one do I need use?
Let's start from the beginning as we answer all your questions about the OLAPLEX range both in-salon and home care.
What is Olaplex?
Olaplex is a product that has many uses, but for purposes of blonde hair, a colorist will add it to your lightener (bleach) or colour (tint /toner) when you get highlights or colour.
What’s so special about it?
We all know that colouring hair causes damage. This is because regardless of whether you get highlights (the process of removing colour) or adding colour, the chemicals that allow the colour to penetrate into the hair alter its structure and essentially “break the bonds” in your hair. This process can range from mildly to extremely damaging. But since Olaplex is a “bond multiplier,” it will multiply and essentially rebuild those bonds, lessening the damage and leaving the hair stronger and healthier than it would otherwise be if no bond repairer was used.
Why is Olaplex so important for blondes?
Going blonde involves bleach, so blondes are particularly susceptible to brittle, damaged hair and hair breakage. (You girls with double-process platinum know especially what I’m talking about). Olaplex will help with that damage/breakage. Plus, because it is so effective in minimizing damage, your colourist may be able to take you lighter than would otherwise be possible.
My hair is [fill in the blank], will it work on me?
According to Olaplex, the company has “tested Olaplex on virtually every hair type and it works. Asian, Caucasian, African American, previously chemically processed and virgin.” What Olaplex won’t do is help seriously distressed hair. As Olaplex has stated on its Facebook page, and as Christal confirmed, “[i]f your client’s hair is seriously compromised and you wouldn’t normally process their hair, do not do so just because you have Olaplex. It’s not a magic wand.”
Can I use Olaplex at home?
Yes! There is now a whole Olaplex Home Care Range at home use, the first home care product released was Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3.
The product is meant for you to use once a week to strengthen hair further or to use as a pre-treatment to a future chemical service.
It is concentrated, so you will only need to use a 20 - 50 cent sized dollop evenly from roots to the ends on shampooed and towel-dried hair.
(If you hair is too wet it will not be able to absorb the treatment.) You will then need to leave the treatment on for over 10 minutes plus to do it's job.
After that you just shampoo and rinse it out and condition your hair as normal.
Next in the Olaplex Home Care Range came there Olaplex No.4 and Olaplex No.5, shampoo and conditioner.
Formulated with Olaplex Bond Building Chemistry and designed for all hair types. They are sulfate-free, paraben-free and colour safe.
Making them a perfect choice for anyone with dry, brittle and/or chemically sensitised hair.
Olaplex No. 4 Shampoo restores the hair’s internal strength and moisture levels to add incredible shine and manageability.
Olaplex No. 5 Conditioner restores, repairs & hydrates without excess weight. Olaplex 5 Conditioner eliminates damage & frizz for strong, healthy, shiny hair.
And for styling Olaplex has introduced -
Olaplex No. 6 Bond which is a Smoother Reparative Styling Creme. This is a leave-in styling cream that eliminates frizz, hydrates, and protects all hair types. It's formula strengthens, hydrates, moisturises, and speeds up blow dry times while smoothing and eliminating frizz for up to 72 hours.
How you use it:
Olaplex No. 6 can be used daily on wet and dry hair, however, the effects of No. 6 work up to 72 hours so you shouldn't need to use it daily unless you wash and condition your hair daily.
Apply a very small amount to damp or dry hair, concentrating the product on your mid-length to ends. 2. Comb through and style as desired.
And to finish it all off there is now Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil
Olaplex No. 7 repairs, strengthens, and hydrates all hair types. It dramatically increases shine, softness, and color vibrancy, while minimizing flyaways and heat protection up to 450°F/ 230°C. It works on all hair types and textures.
Turn the bottle upside down and gently tap the index finger on the bottom of the bottle to dispense a metered drop.
Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair, style as desired.
